Sydney 2049

If there was ever a time to let your imagination run wild about what the future holds, it’s now.

The year is 2049. Sydney. Though sci-fi fans out there may feel transported into a familiar neo-noir cinematic world. Inspired by the phenomenal futuristic design and architectural intoxication of the Blade Runner films, we decided to stretch our creative fingers and translate this moody and surreal aesthetic into some dreamlike visions of our future built environment.

Collaborating with Studio Ami we were able to dress these scenes with some truly stunning styling elements. Their approach to channeling Blade Runner’s futuristic, yet timeless aesthetic, was to look at Classicism, Modernism, Post-Modernism and Brutalism and then imagine a world where all these ‘isms’ collide.

“In a time when nothing feels real and civilization is on the brink of collapse, these are the pieces that will get you through — these are the objects that have survived.”

Each object, many iconic, was selected for it’s form or sculptural shape that harks back to the best period of design for its era. A large array of pieces juxtapose one another—think angles, blobs and curves—letting your eyes dance across the page. Every piece is arresting, strange and odd, yet they harmoniously converse with each other. These are the items that have truly stood the test of time in 2049, and which set the scene for these futuristic vignettes.

What started as an imaginative fan art exercise, turned into some truly alluring images. May they be a reminder to keep looking ahead and to what surrounds you. You never know what the future may bring—or hold onto.
